Degree Programme in Nursing | full-time studies
The nursing programme prepares you to examine a patient’s condition, handle their medication, coordinate their treatment, and provide guidance and support for them and their family members. Promoting and maintaining good health as well as preventing and treating illnesses are important in this programme. Studies give you required skills of communication and interaction for working life. After learning the practical skills, you will improve your problem solving and decision making in different nursing environments.
A special feature in this programme are the work placements that are 75 study credits altogether: approximately seven practical training periods. Placements give you valuable experience and skills of working with real patients in authentic health care situations. Overall, this programme is suitable for you who are interested in health and nursing, enjoy working in groups and would like to work to help and support other people.

Studies consist of core competence studies that are obligatory for all students, and complementary studies that allow you to deepen or extend your knowledge.

During complementary studies you develop your skills in specific areas of nursing that you find most appealing to you. Nursing student can specialize for example in working on different units in a hospital, with children or the elderly.
How to study
This is a day-time programme, and it includes contact teaching and face-to-face instruction. Student groups are multicultural and international. During the studies you carry out projects in authentic environments. The programme also includes Finnish studies, particularly focusing on nursing-related vocabulary.
Note: All applicants for the degree programme in Nursing are required to have basic Finnish skills (level B1) and English skills (level B2). As a part of the studies there are special language courses that include vocabulary of the field. All students whose first language is not Finnish will take a preliminary Finnish proficiency test, based on which they will be offered different courses for learning Finnish.
Laurea is the largest educator of nurses in Finland. In our nursing programme taught in English, you will study in multicultural and international student groups. The nursing studies are practically oriented and contain lectures, workshops, and simulation exercises. Core competence studies are fully in English but complementary competencies can be studied in either English or Finnish. Nursing skills are practiced in simulation at first which prepares you for your work placements.

Expenses
University higher education is funded by the State through the Ministry of Education and Culture, so that students enrolled in regular degree programmes pay no tuition fees. However, students have to pay for their books and other materials, plus their accommodation and living expenses.
Tuition fees for Non-EU /EEA students: €8000/academic year
