Studying is practically oriented and includes lots of real-life projects with different kinds of clients and organizations. Practical studying, group work, projects and work placements are in a significant role in social services studies. This programme improves your communication and teamwork skills and prepares you to counter customers. Face-to-face interaction is in a big role and the students learn to act as members of different groups in varietal environments.

A special feature in Social Services degree programme is the significant role of practical studies and work placements. All students will attend three work placements with at least 10 weeks of full-time work during their study path. A close collaboration with various working life actors is a huge benefit and offer you great professional skills for working on the field.
How to study
NOTE: All applicants for the degree programme in Social Services are required to have basic Finnish skills (level B1) and English skills (level B2).
Studies are conducted through daytime teaching. In daytime studies, the courses include face-to-face instruction on campus, different group works and a chance to work closely with working life partners during the practice periods. You can also include online courses to your studies and select studies flexibly from Laurea’s other campuses.
During your studies, you will get to work with students from our other programmes in English as well as exchange students from around the world. Studying in English helps you develop your language skills and earn experience on working in multicultural and multidisciplinary groups, which benefits you in working life and becoming employed after graduation.

Expenses
University higher education is funded by the State through the Ministry of Education and Culture, so that students enrolled in regular degree programmes pay no tuition fees. However, students have to pay for their books and other materials, plus their accommodation and living expenses.
